Fred Randall Burnette

Burnette was from England but had travelled in the United States before opening the Argyle Electric Theatre in Glasgow in 1910, one of the first in the city. Often in partnership with architect AV Gardner, he continued to invest in new cinemas around the Clyde coast. A motor car enthusiast, Burnette also held an interest in the Argyllshire Motor Company and his exploits driving down Scottish roads were often publicised, and occasionally filmed. In 1914 he got a Gaumont operator to join him on a road trip arriving at Campbeltown, the end of which can be seen as part of a local topical film of the Territorial soldiers.
