John Maxwell

Scottish lawyer, with practice in Glasgow. Founder with Arthur Dent of Waverley Films to distribute films in Scotland. Finding that it was difficult to get Scottish rights without having British rights, acquired an interest with Wardour which eventually hired Dent and merged with Waverley. Was subsequently involved with Gaumont and with Associated British Picture Group with assets of 24 m, including 633 cinemas and with studios at Elstree and Shepherd's Bush.
